What is Hospice?
Hospice is specialized care for people with a life-limiting illness, focusing on comfort and quality of life rather than curative treatments. Hospice addresses the whole person—physical, emotional, and spiritual needs—and provides support for the entire family. It’s about living well in the time you have.

Who Pays for Hospice?
Hospice is covered 100% by Medicare, Medicaid, and most private insurance plans. This includes medications related to the hospice diagnosis, medical equipment, supplies, and the services of the hospice care team. There is no financial burden for eligible patients and families.

When Should You Consider Hospice?
Many think hospice is only for the final days of life, but in reality, patients and families can—and should—access hospice earlier. You may want to consider hospice if you or your loved one:

  • Has a serious illness with a prognosis of six months or less if the disease follows its usual course
  • Is experiencing more frequent hospitalizations or ER visits
  • Is feeling increased pain, weakness, or difficulty with daily activities
  • Is no longer benefiting from aggressive treatments or chooses to focus on comfort

I was a mess after having a triple bypass BUT the people at Pemi-Baker helped me so much. Each one were kind, caring, helpful and very sincere with their care. I am so grateful for this service. The physical therapists who visited after my total knee replacement were amazing! The communication was excellent. They phoned in advance to confirm their arrival times.
