Pemi-Baker Hospice & Home Health to Offer Grief & Loss Support Group: “The Needs of Mourning.”
Pemi-Baker Hospice & Home Health invites community members to take part in an upcoming Grief & Loss Support Group series centered on “The Needs of Mourning,” a compassionate, structured approach to understanding and navigating grief.
This six-week series is inspired by the work of Dr. Alan D. Wolfelt, PhD, one of America’s leading specialists in grief and mourning and director of The Center for Loss & Life Transition. Dr. Wolfelt has identified six essential needs of mourning—guiding principles that help individuals move through grief in a healthy and meaningful way.
Throughout the sessions, participants will explore these six needs:
- Acknowledging the reality of the death
- Embracing the pain of the loss
- Remembering the person who has died
- Developing a new self-identity
- Searching for meaning
- Receiving ongoing support from others
The group will meet weekly on Tuesdays at 10:30 AM, beginning April 14, 2026, and continuing April 21, April 28, May 5, May 12, and May 19.
All sessions will take place at the Plymouth Regional Senior Center, in the upstairs art room, which is accessible by elevator. Participants who require a parking slip are encouraged to arrive by 10:15 AM to obtain one at the front desk.
“Grief is a deeply personal journey, but no one has to walk it alone,” said Guy Tillson, Bereavement Coordinator. “This group offers a supportive environment where individuals can share, reflect, and learn tools for coping and healing.”
Pre-registration is required. To sign up or learn more, please contact Guy Tillson, Bereavement Coordinator, at 603-536-2232 or via email at info@pbhha.org.
While not required for participation, attendees may find it helpful to read Creating Your Grief Plan: The Power of Befriending the Six Universal Needs of Mourning by Dr. Wolfelt, which expands on the concepts discussed in the group. The book is available through major online retailers and local bookstores.
Additionally, those interested in learning more about the six needs of mourning may find helpful insights in an hour-long “Interview with Dr. Wolfelt: The Six Needs of Mourning (May 2020)” available on YouTube.
