A Safe Space for Healing: Grief and Loss Support Group at Plymouth Senior Center.

The experience of grief that follows upon a loss is a deeply personal and highly individual reality. Its characteristics can be shaped and formed by the attachment we had to what was lost and the nature of the event of the loss itself. The loss of an abusive parent we reluctantly assumed responsibility caring for as they approached the end of their life may arouse different feeling responses than the sudden death of a much-beloved pet who brought great joy into our life. How we come to terms with the bundle of feelings that make up our own unique experience of grief is the challenge of mourning that can bring healing.

The next Grief and Loss Support Group offered by Pemi-Baker Hospice & Home Health will attempt to assist participants in looking at the particular features of their grief. There is no predictability regarding how we respond to loss, the types of reactions we may have, the frequency or intensity of these, or how long it will take to “feel better” or “get back to normal”. The group is intended to provide a safe space where participants can share their experiences and questions, be heard, and listen to others. Hopefully, it can help to recover some balance and stability if the emotional reactivity feels confusing and stormy.

Our first of six sessions in this series will be on Tuesday, February 3, 2026, at the Senior Center in Plymouth, 10:30 AM. Since we are in the winter months, when the weather is bad, we ask participants to check WMUR Channel 9 for closings. When the Plymouth Schools are closed, the Senior Center is also usually closed as well, so we will not be meeting. Even if schools are open when the weather is bad, we ask participants to use their best judgment in doing what they need to do to remain safe.

Sessions will be held in the upstairs art room of the Plymouth Regional Senior Center (8 Depot Street, Plymouth), accessible by elevator. Participants needing a parking slip should plan to arrive by 10:15 AM to obtain one at the front desk.

‘Grief & Loss Support Group’ Series Starting July 22nd, 2025

Pemi-Baker Hospice & Home Health is pleased to announce the next offering of its Grief & Loss Support Group, beginning Tuesday, July 22, 2025, at the Plymouth Senior Center. This six-week series, titled “Back to the Basics,” is designed to support individuals navigating the many dimensions of loss.

The group will meet weekly on Tuesdays: July 22, July 29, August 5, 12, 19, and 26, from 10:30 AM to 12:00 noon. Sessions will be held in the upstairs art room of the Plymouth Regional Senior Center (8 Depot Street, Plymouth), accessible by elevator. Participants needing a parking slip should plan to arrive by 10:15 AM to obtain one at the front desk.

About the Series
“Back to the Basics” will explore foundational concepts such as:

The difference between bereavement, grief, and mourning
Four common reactions to grief
Four tasks of processing loss
The various types of grief
The emotional, physical, and psychological impact of grief
The importance of self-care during the healing process

Each session is structured around open dialogue rather than a rigid syllabus. While broad topics guide the group, the true value comes from the shared experiences and honest conversations among participants. Handouts may be provided to spark reflection, but the focus is on personal connection and support.

This group is inclusive of many kinds of loss—not just the death of a loved one. Whether you’re dealing with the end of a relationship, the loss of a pet, job, home, or other life changes, this space is for you.

“What Hurts? What Helps?” Next 6 week Grief and Loss Support Group Starting June 27th, 2023

Though clinical studies on the impact of bereavement and grief continue to abound, the real “experts” on grieving and mourning are the people who have suffered and are enduring a loss in their lives. Significant losses are not only deaths, but job loss, the end of a relationship, or geographic relocation.

The next six-week Grief and Loss Support Group to be offered by Pemi-Baker Hospice and Home Health is entitled “What Hurts? What Helps?” Participants will be guided and directed in using a journal to monitor their experiences and discoveries of what has been helpful or non-productive as they process their losses. Healing can come through sharing and dialogue with others about those awarenesses.

This group will begin on Tuesday, June 27, 2023, at 10:30am in the upstairs Art Room at the Plymouth Area Regional Senior Center. The Art Room is accessible by elevator or stairs. Except for the Tuesday Fourth of July holiday, the group will continue on Tuesday mornings through August 8, 2023. Participation is in-person.
