Pemi-Baker Hospice & Home Health will host a free community education night focused on Medical Aid in Dying (MAiD) on Wednesday, November 4, from 5:00–6:30 p.m. at the Speare Hospital Boulder Point Community Room, 103 Boulder Point Drive.
The educational program will feature Dr. Kristi Saunders, Hospice Medical Director for Pemi-Baker Hospice & Home Health, and Rebecca Brown, Director of the New Hampshire Alliance for End of Life Options.
The evening will provide an opportunity for community members, patients, families, caregivers and clinicians to learn more about Medical Aid in Dying and ask questions in an open, respectful setting. Topics will include:
- What is Medical Aid in Dying?
- Where is MAiD currently legal?
- Who may qualify?
- What does the process involve?
- How does it work?
- What are the associated costs?
- What should patients, families and healthcare professionals know?
- How does MAiD fit within the broader range of end-of-life care and options?
Medical Aid in Dying is a complex and often deeply personal end-of-life topic. The goal of the evening is to provide factual information and an opportunity for thoughtful discussion. New Hampshire’s laws and policies concerning end-of-life care can be complex, and the discussion will distinguish MAiD from other end-of-life decisions, such as hospice care and the withholding or withdrawal of life-sustaining treatment.
This event is free and open to everyone. Community members and healthcare professionals are welcome, and attendees are encouraged to bring their questions.
