Pemi-Baker Hospice and Home Health’s yearly “Holiday Blues” Grief and Loss Group will have its first meeting on Tuesday of Thanksgiving week, November 24, 2026. This particular group attempts to address the difficulties and challenges posed to persons who have suffered various losses by a season of joy and celebration.
The losses may be the death of a loved one, a severe financial setback, being let go from a job, relocation to a new place where there are no familiar acquaintances, a divorce or the breakup of a relationship, or the death of a pet. These experiences create intense feelings that are in sharp contrast to days of merriment and fun.
The group provides a safe space where participants can express their feelings of emptiness and sadness with others who have experienced similar reactions. Participants can also consider making use of different strategies and skills to deal with the social and familial pressures that are part of the holiday season. There will also be suggestions for simple at-home rituals that may provide some comfort and solace in what can be a difficult time for grieving persons.
The group will meet for five sessions, all Tuesdays, November 24, December 1, 8, 22, and 29, 2026. There will be no meeting on Tuesday, December 15, 2026. The meeting on December 29, 2026 will look at the coming New Year. The group meets at 10:30am in the upstairs Art Room at the Plymouth Senior Center.
The Art Room is accessible by elevator, if needed. Those who are not regular participants at the Senior Center’s activities are asked to arrive by 10:15am in order to get a parking slip for the dashboard of their vehicle. These are obtained from the receptionist at the front desk of the Senior Center. There is no cost for participating in the group.
In order that adequate preparations may be made, participants are required to preregister by contacting Guy Tillson, Pemi-Baker Hospice Chaplain and Bereavement Coordinator by email at gtillson@pbhha.org or by phone at 603 536-2232. Since we are in the seasons of unpredictable weather, participants are asked to be attentive to announcements of school closings via WMUR-TV. If schools are closed because of bad weather, the Senior Center is usually closed, so there will be no group meeting. Participants’ safety is the top priority, so please be careful about driving regardless of school closings.
