Pemi-Baker Hospice & Home Health Promotes Liver Health and Support at Home.
This October, during Liver Awareness Month, Pemi-Baker Hospice & Home Health reminds our community how important it is to care for one of the body’s hardest-working organs — the liver. The liver plays a major role in keeping us healthy, yet liver disease often develops quietly.
Conditions like hepatitis, cirrhosis, fatty liver disease, and liver cancer can affect anyone, but early detection and healthy daily habits can make a big difference. Eating a balanced diet, limiting alcohol, staying active, and maintaining a healthy weight are simple steps that go a long way toward protecting your liver.
For those living with liver disease or other chronic illnesses, Pemi-Baker’s home health and hospice teams are here to help. Our caring Registered Nurses, Licensed Nursing Assistants (LNAs), and Social Workers provide support right at home — helping with symptom management, medications, and comfort care, all while keeping patients connected to their loved ones. It can be physically and emotionally challenging, but the Pemi-Baker team will offer round-the-clock support to manage symptoms, relieve discomfort, and improve quality of life for patients and their families.
How Can Home Health & Hospice Care Help?
- Symptom management: Liver disease can cause pain, swelling, nausea, and difficulty eating. The Pemi-Baker team will help manage these symptoms with medications and other therapies, so you can be more comfortable.
- Emotional support: Living with liver disease can be overwhelming and stressful. The Pemi-Baker team will work with you and your family to offer emotional and psychological support. This might include talking through fears or concerns or connecting you with counseling services.
- Coordination of care: You’ll likely have many doctors involved in your care, such as liver specialists (hepatologists), surgeons, and primary care doctors. The Pemi-Baker team will help coordinate your treatment, ensuring everyone works together to meet your needs.
- Help with decisions: There are often complicated decisions to be made about your care. The Pemi-Baker team will explain your options, answer your questions, and help you make decisions that align with your goals and values.
“We’re honored to help people live safely and comfortably at home,” said a Aubrey Engle, RN, Executive Director. “Our goal is to make sure no one has to face illness alone.”

Pemi-Baker Hospice & Home Health, a leading provider of compassionate end-of-life care and comprehensive home health services, is thrilled to extend its heartfelt appreciation to the community and local businesses for their tremendous support and overwhelming response to our online ‘2023 Spring Auction’. Remember to think “FAST” and look for the following signs:
Some of the auction donations are specific to palliative and hospice services including: therapeutic massage, hospice and dementia comfort cubs, therapeutic music and hospice comfort kits.

Another benefit that at-home therapy provides, is the opportunity to assess the safety and accessibility of the home environment. A therapist’s trained eyes can spot fall hazards or bathroom dangers and provide helpful preventive advice.
The existence of hospice makes this level of freedom available to many who otherwise would not have had it. Hospice care offers 24/7 clinical support, medication and pain management, assistance with daily living activities, medical supplies and equipment, volunteer support and companionship, social, spiritual and grief support from social workers and chaplains, for the whole family.
The elderly who wish to retain the freedom of staying in their home and ending their lives on their own terms experience true psychological benefits. Their comfortable surroundings allow them to end their lives with a sense of dignity, which is incredibly valuable. In fact, home care harkens back to older days, when tending to the terminally ill at home was the standard. There’s always the added benefit of being closer to their loved ones in their final days.
