Pemi-Baker Hospice & Home Health Announces Auction Fundraiser and Seeks Business Sponsorships to Support Their Mission.

Pemi-Baker Hospice & Home Health, your local, non-profit, visiting nurse association, is excited to announce their upcoming auction fundraiser to be held on line the month of May. The event runs from May 1st– 30th and all proceeds raised are for friends and neighbors who are under-insured as well as Pemi-Baker’s FREE community programs: ‘Ask A Pemi-Baker Nurse’, Grief and Caregiver Support Groups and Advance Directive workshops.

All proceeds from the auction fundraiser will directly benefit our programs and help us achieve our mission of supporting families with advanced illness at home. However, we cannot achieve this alone, and we are seeking the support of local businesses to help us achieve our fundraising goals.

We are inviting businesses in the community to sponsor the event through a donation of goods, services, or funds. As a sponsor, your business will be recognized on our event signage, website, and social media accounts, and you will have the opportunity to connect with potential customers and demonstrate your commitment to supporting our community.

February is Healthy Heart Month, and Pemi-Baker Hospice & Home Health wants to help you take care of your ticker! We’re all about making sure your heart stays strong and healthy, and we’ve got some easy tips to help you do just that.

First off, it’s super important to keep an eye on your blood pressure and pulse. These are like your heart’s report card, telling you how it’s doing. Normal blood pressure is usually between 90/60 mmHg and 120/80 mmHg, and your pulse should be somewhere between 60 to 100 beats per minute. If those numbers are higher, it could mean trouble for your heart.

Now, let’s talk about things that can make your blood pressure go up. Eating too much salty or fatty food, not getting enough exercise, and not getting enough sleep can all give your heart a hard time. Try to eat foods with less salt and fat, get moving for at least 30 minutes a day, and aim for 7 hours of sleep each night. Your heart will thank you!

Stress can also affect your heart. So, take some time to relax. Whether it’s taking a bath, meditating, reading a book, or listening to music, find something that helps you unwind.

And here’s a tip: if you feel nervous when you go to the doctor and your blood pressure goes up, that’s totally normal! It’s called White Coat Syndrome. Just let your doctor know, and they’ll understand.

Pemi-Baker Hospice & Home Health is thrilled to announce the appointment of Aubrey Engle, BSN, RN, as its new Executive Director. With an illustrious career spanning over a decade in nursing and healthcare leadership, Aubrey brings a wealth of experience and a passion for patient-centered care to her new role.

Aubrey’s journey in nursing began as a medic in the US Army. Then in 2010 she honed her skills in cardiovascular surgery and intensive care units at WakeMed Health & Hospitals in Raleigh, NC. Her commitment to excellence led her to a staff nurse position at UNC Hospital in Chapel Hill, NC, before she and her husband made the proud decision to call New Hampshire their home in 2015.

For over 5 ½ years, Aubrey served as a clinical leader and practice administrator with Concord Hospital Medical Group, where she demonstrated exceptional leadership and dedication to improving patient outcomes. In 2021, Aubrey was drawn to the field of home health, where she had the privilege to lead a remarkable team of home care clinicians at Granite VNA.

Reflecting on her career trajectory, Aubrey shared, “There are many challenges and rewards of working in home health leadership, but most important is the opportunity to mentor and support the clinicians who care for the patients in our local communities. I am excited to be joining Pemi-Baker as their new Executive Director.”

In her new role, Aubrey will lead Pemi-Baker Hospice & Home Health in its mission to provide compassionate and comprehensive care to individuals and families in the community. Her extensive background in nursing and healthcare management will undoubtedly contribute to the continued growth and success of the organization.

Volunteering has proven benefits, including stress reduction, combating depression, mental stimulation, and a sense of purpose. Pemi-Baker Hospice recognizes the invaluable impact of volunteers in supporting families and individuals during challenging times.

Our dedicated volunteers come from diverse professional backgrounds, representing the 32 towns served by Pemi-Baker. Many volunteers have a personal connection to someone who has benefited from hospice care, driving their passion to contribute to the well-being of other families in their community.

In response to patient requests, Pemi-Baker is also actively seeking male volunteers and individuals with a military background. This initiative aims to expand the range of support available to our Veteran patients, ensuring a more comprehensive and tailored approach to their unique needs.

No matter your background, hospice volunteers play a crucial role in supporting families in various ways, including reading to patients, writing letters, relieving family caregivers, light housekeeping, assisting with outside chores, walking dogs, or cooking meals. Regardless of the time commitment, whether it’s 1-2 hours per week or per month, every contribution is valuable.

Free Grief & Loss Support groups offered at Pemi-Baker Hospice & Home Health, Plymouth, NHPemi-Baker Hospice & Home Health is pleased to announce a six-week Grief and Loss Support Group series, commencing on Tuesday, January 30, 2024. The series, led by Hospice Spiritual Counselor and Bereavement Coordinator, Guy Tillson, will explore the theme “The Impact of Loss on Our Lives.”

Loss, in its various forms, affects individuals in profound ways, influencing personal and family concerns, physical health, social relationships, financial and material needs, emotional reactions and responses, and self-care and spiritual issues. The support group will feature brief presentations by Mr. Tillson, with the primary focus on fostering open discussions and sharing among participants.

The sessions will be held in the upstairs Art Room at the Plymouth Regional Senior Center, accessible by elevator. The series does not strictly follow a curriculum but serves as a platform for addressing the unique needs of the group participants. The experience of loss, whether through death, sudden unemployment, divorce or separation, or relocation, will be approached with sensitivity and understanding.

I was a mess after having a triple bypass BUT the people at Pemi-Baker helped me so much. Each one were kind, caring, helpful and very sincere with their care. I am so grateful for this service. I was a mess after having a triple bypass BUT the people at Pemi-Baker helped me so much. Each one were kind, caring, helpful and very sincere with their care. I am so grateful for this service. I did have family members that helped me through this time, but I really needed the love and care that the people at Pemi-Baker gave me. I miss them but am well and in Cardiac Rehab now. Thank you all!!!!

The Physical therapists were amazing!

The physical therapists who visited after my total knee replacement were amazing! The communication was excellent. They phoned in advance to confirm their arrival times. Each PT provider was professional, supportive, and guided me through the appropriate exercises necessary in order for me to be ready to leave my house and continue with physical therapy outside the home. The Rewards of Being a Hospice Volunteer

While I was familiar with Hospice for many years, I only have been a hospice volunteer with Pemi Baker Hospice and Home Health (PBHHH) since October 2021.  When I retired, I began searching for volunteer work that would allow me to give back to my community.  A newsletter from PBHHH arrived in my email announcing training for hospice volunteers.  My family had experienced the need for hospice twice, once in Ohio and again in Florida.  The relief my family and I felt when the hospice volunteers arrived was beyond measure.  I want to bring the same kind of assistance to others.  PBHHH given me that opportunity by providing professional training with knowledgeable nurses, doctors, social workers and other health care professionals.  Their guidance has enabled me to meet the challenges of being s hospice volunteer, and I am very glad that I did it.
