As we grow older, it’s common to wonder whether every medication we’re taking is still necessary or even the best choice for our current health. To help community members better understand their medications and make informed health care decisions, Pemi-Baker Hospice & Home Health is offering a free educational workshop, “Medications & Health Care Wishes As We Age,” presented by Hospice Medical Director Dr. Kristi Saunders, MD.
The workshop will be held on Wednesday, July 22, from 6:00-7:00 p.m. at the Meredith Public Library, 91 Main Street, Meredith, NH 03253.
Many older adults find themselves taking multiple medications prescribed over many years. During this informative session, Dr. Saunders will discuss how to become an active participant in your own health care by asking important questions such as:
- Do I really need this medication?
- What is it for?
- Are there safer or simpler alternatives?
- Is this medication still benefiting me?
Participants will learn how to have productive conversations with their physicians about de-prescribing medications that may no longer be necessary while prioritizing treatments that best support their current health goals and quality of life.
In addition to discussing medications, Dr. Saunders will also address the importance of talking with your health care provider about your personal health care wishes as you age. Planning ahead and communicating your preferences can help ensure that future medical care reflects what matters most to you and your loved ones.
Each attendee will receive a helpful “Talking With Your Health Care Team” guide to take home, providing practical questions and tips for future medical appointments.
“This workshop is about giving people the confidence to ask questions and become partners in their own care,” said Dr. Saunders. “Understanding your medications and communicating your health care wishes can lead to better care, fewer unnecessary medications, and greater peace of mind.”
The workshop is free and open to the public. While there is no cost to attend, preregistration is encouraged.
